Double Costs After Jury Verdict
A good settlement offer is not just a number. It is a litigation tool.
Thomas Harding acted for the plaintiff after a jury verdict in a personal injury matter. The plaintiff had made an offer to settle, and the court awarded double costs after the verdict.
That matters. When a defendant refuses a reasonable offer and does worse at trial, the court can order costs consequences that materially increase what the defendant has to pay.
